hello! I can't believe I haven't sent an email all year ;)
happy January, I'm happy to be in 2026 and just hit one of every month. I hope you all have a Christ-centered view going into a new year.
my week:
January
media sister
bday Sis Bird
São Paulo
I got called as media sister! I'll do the "Floripanews" which is the newsletter every month, and I'll also work the social medias of the mission. on the mission, I've missed being creative so I'm excited. and having Pinterest definitely doesn't hurt. my other Floripa missionaries, if the Floripanews turns to Taylor Swift eras every month, you now know why.
oh, also on Wednesday, I'll be flying to São Paulo probably to do visa stuff, they didn't say why. it'll feel so weird being on a plane because I always thought next time would be when I go home. at this point maybe I'll just ask them to take me now.
Sister Bird turned 20! I think turning 20 in a different country without your family and friends could be a sad thing for sure. I tried to use my inner Natalie and make it special. Sister Bird loves camping, so I set up our room as if we were camping and I have sound machine that makes cricket noises haha. I was able to put together a video from her old comps and family, and we also had cake at an irmãs house. it was a great day.
we have four people that should be getting baptized this month. an older couple, Silvio & Solange. then a woman and young girl, Gabrielle and Marrvel. Two on the 16th and two on the 25th!
at church on Sunday, we also had some of the people we are teaching, two older ladies, mom and daughter. when they walked in all dressed up and fancy with their little purses, so excited to be there, I literally almost cried. it was so sweet.
the last baptism date I talked about, Zulu, fell because he ended up kissing my neck and Sis Bird's cheek, so we had to drop him... happens
that's my update. lots of walking, hills, lessons, knocking doors, finding houses of people who requested visits and a lot of sun. definitely in the groove and just working.
random-
-for Christmas, I got little Jesus figurines and the gets kid so happy. it's my new favorite thing. one little girl ran into the chapel and proudly showed me she brought her Jesus.
-new years we made chocolate tapioca and played Uno
-we had an uber that was a little white car that speeded it and drifted with Taylor Swift blasting and I never felt more like myself than then
-we were visiting a reference in the middle of the jungle, and they had to open the door for us using a machete. was wild. the vibes were kind of making us feel like we should leave, but then they had this highly addictive western movie on, so we didn't. they also had 13 cats. I asked
President Holland
our Apostle, President Holland, passed away. as sad as it is, I'm so happy for him to be in heaven and with his wife again who he missed so much.
he has done so much for me on my mission. I remember my first transfer in Parque Malwee (inferno), sitting at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere, it was raining so hard, dark and late, and I was just thinking, "what am I doing here. what is this." I read a talk from him "the miracle of a mission" (thank you Lia) and it hit so hard for me. he spoke so strongly and honestly, and his faith is unwavering.
I also remember during this season of Christmas how much his talk, "I'll be home for Christmas" meant to me. I felt so understood.
I am so grateful for a living prophet and apostles.
he spoke of missing his wife and how everyone wants to be home for christmas, he was talking about himself, and now he has returned to his heavenly home.
he knew with his whole heart the church is true
heaven is even sweeter now
love you all so much
I cherish every email I get
also, this week I hit six months. wild.
